Where Young Performers
Discover Their Magic
Connecticut Family Theatre has been inspiring young performers to find their voice, build their confidence, and share their stories with the world since 2006.
We nurture creative thinking and storytelling from the very first class.
Every student finds their voice and learns to share it with the world.
Original expression is celebrated in every rehearsal and performance.
Learning through joy and play is the heart of everything we do at CFT.
The CFT Story
More Than a Theatre — We're Family
Now in our 16th year, CFT is increasingly recognized as a leading teaching theatre in the state of Connecticut. From the complete beginner to the more advanced performer, there is something for everyone at CFT. We are a place where children learn about theatre — and a place where children and their families experience an environment where they are welcomed, accepted for who they are, and above all, treated like family.
At CFT we take pride in the fact that so many of our students remain with us throughout their elementary, middle, and high school years. Our older, experienced students — who just a few years ago walked on stage for the very first time — are now wonderful role models and mentors to our newer students, helping them take their own first steps into the spotlight.
Many students have taken what they learned at CFT and gone on to perform in commercials, in film, and even on Broadway. Many have also gone on to study their craft at prestigious universities throughout the country and abroad. We are proud and humbled knowing that we inspire our students to challenge themselves, take risks, and, most of all, to follow their passion.
What We Offer
Programs for Every Performer
From beginner acting to advanced productions, our programs are designed to meet every student where they are and take them further than they imagined.
Production Classes
"On With the Show!"
Our flagship production program guides students through every stage of a full theatrical production — from auditions and rehearsals to opening night. Students develop acting, singing, and stage presence in an encouraging team environment.
Teen Company
For Advanced Young Performers
The CFT Teen Company is designed for experienced students ready to take on more challenging material and leadership roles. Teen Company members mentor younger students, building a strong sense of community and responsibility.
Workshops
Skill-Building Sessions
Focused workshops in acting technique, improvisation, musical theatre, voice, and movement are offered throughout the year. Workshops are open to students of all levels and complement our production programs.
Traveling Performance Troupe
Theatre That Travels
Our Traveling Performance Troupe takes polished shows to schools, community centers, and senior facilities throughout the region. Students gain real performance experience while bringing the joy of theatre to new audiences.
Home School & Off-Site Programs
Flexible Learning Options
Specially tailored for home school families and partner schools, our off-site programs bring theatre education directly to your community. We offer customized curricula that can be integrated into existing academic schedules.
Rehearsal Schedule
Year-Round Programming
CFT offers programs in fall, winter, spring, and summer. Rehearsals are structured to accommodate busy family schedules, and our instructors keep every session focused, productive, and energizing.
